MNP (Mobile Number Portability)

What is MNP?

MNP (Mobile Number Portability), is a system that allows mobile phone users to retain their current phone number even when they switch from one mobile service provider to another. This means you don't have to inform all your contacts about a new number, making the transition much smoother.

Obtain an MNP Reservation Number

This is the first and most crucial step. You'll need to contact your current mobile carrier (the one you're leaving) to request an MNP reservation number.

- You can usually do this via their customer service hotline, their online portal (My Page), or at their physical store.

-  This number is valid for a limited time, typically 15 days. It's important to complete your application with ChuraX Mobile before this number expires.

Apply with ChuraX Mobile

 - When you apply for a new service with ChuraX Mobile, you'll indicate that you wish to use MNP.

- You'll need to provide the MNP reservation number you obtained from your previous carrier, along with your personal details and identity verification documents.

- For e-SIM, the process is often entirely online. For physical SIMs, the SIM card will be shipped to you after your application is processed.

Activation of Your New Service

- Once ChuraX Mobile processes your MNP application, they will initiate the porting process.

- On the day of the switch (often the next business day after application approval, or on a specified date), your service with your old carrier will be deactivated, and your number will be transferred to ChuraX Mobile.

- You might experience a short period (a few minutes to a few hours) where your phone service is temporarily unavailable during the switch.

- For e-SIMs, you'll typically receive instructions (e.g., a QR code) to download the new profile to your device. For physical SIMs, you'll insert the new SIM card into your device.

Complete Initial Setup (APN settings, etc.)

- After the number is ported and the new SIM/e-SIM profile is active, you might need to perform APN (Access Point Name) settings on your device to enable data communication. ChuraX Mobile will provide specific instructions for this.

* Important Considerations for MNP Porting

- Timing is Key: The MNP reservation number has an expiry date. Ensure you apply to ChuraX Mobile with sufficient time before it expires. If it expires, you'll need to obtain a new one from your old carrier.

- Fees: Your old carrier might charge an MNP reservation number issuance fee or a contract termination fee. ChuraX Mobile also has an initial activation fee. Always check these fees beforehand.

- Billing Cycle: Your final bill from your old carrier will include charges up to the day your service is deactivated due to MNP.

- Email Address: If you are using a carrier-specific email address (e.g., @docomo.ne.jp, @softbank.ne.jp, @rakutenmobile.jp), you will lose access to it once you port out. Make sure to update your registered email addresses for important services before initiating MNP.

- Voice vs. Data Only: Confirm whether your MNP reservation number is for a voice-enabled plan, even if you are switching to a data-only plan with the new carrier. The MNP reservation itself is tied to your phone number's existing service type.

- SIM Lock: Ensure your current smartphone is SIM-free (SIMロック解除済み) or unlocked from your previous carrier. If it's still locked, you won't be able to use it with ChuraX Mobile.

- By understanding these steps and considerations, you can ensure a smooth transition when porting your number to ChuraX Mobile.
